Public Health
The SISM, Segretariato Italiano Studenti in Medicina, includes a lot of different areas of acting, which result very interesting if we consider the variety of medical students' skills, following the IFMSA guidelines.
This different areas are called "Standing Committes", according to the International denomination of IFMSA .
The SCOPH of SISM works thanks to the 30 Local Public Health Officers (LPOs) coming from respective University of Medicine; moreover all activities are coordinated by the National Public Health Officer (NPO), which is also a member on the National Committee.
The Local Officers are involved both in local events and in others, organized by the Local Officer of different italian Local Committees to make concrete many projects, which could be realized also in a national level with the support and collaboration of all Local Officers working in the same area.
Considering all these aspects we can divide:
- Local Projects
followed locally
- National Projects
recognized by National committee and coordinated by the NPO or some specific Lisoner Officer.
The SISM collaborates with other associations of volunteers and the national public health services, these type of partership are initialed by an intention letter.
Thanks to the interaction between the two parts, different Awareness Days are performed:
"University Day to promote organs, tissues and cells donation". It usually takes place in april and consist in a sort of awareness and information compaign wich involves the 30 LC in the same date.
In 2005 we organized the event in collaboration with AIDO.
In 2006 the same event had performed with AIDO and ADMO.

"Drop by drop" organized twice a year: spring(about may) and autumn(about october or november)editions. It consists in one or more days dedicated to make people aware about blood donation and to collect blood in each LC. One of the most common way to perform this activity is to stage, helped by other volunteers, all the necessary to collect blood bags in open-air spaces at the University.
We think that also information is very important and we spread the knowledge by laeftning; the activity is supported by CIVIS, a big association that comprehends smaller associations of blood donors.
